01 luxe and leisure in natural harmony
Completed in 2022
This retreat embodies sophisticated alfresco living, in one of Australia’s most desirable coastal regions.
The original property was of a generous size, yet did not live up to its spectacular site. Part of our transformation involved creating a genuine sense of arrival, introducing a curved, sandstone walkway leading to the front entrance. Once inside, crisp, white wall panelling stretches up into a double-height volume, providing a tastefully textural setting for art and feature lighting.
Upstairs, we worked to emphasise the role of the living, dining and kitchen areas as the hub of the home. Large sliding doors now connect the entire upper floor interior and exterior, maximising natural light and the superb rural coastal views.
Year-round flexibility was a key design focus, so our clients can switch easily from entertaining mode to cosy family nights in, and was achieved through beautiful bespoke joinery, which houses a fireplace and discreet entertainment system, and showcases special artefacts.
We added an element of surprise into the outdoor pool area with a curved dusty-pink wall, calling to mind the glamour of a Palm Springs retreat. Nearby, multiple lounging areas, a bar and generous outdoor dining area, complete with bespoke ceiling and sculptural pendants, successfully meld residential and resort moods.
The master suite was conceived to feel like a luxurious hotel suite; a free-flowing layout was anchored by a new structure housing a beautifully appointed powder room and dressing area. A refined, timeless palate and high-quality natural materials – walnut, brass, stone – cements a strong sense of cohesion throughout the home, reinforcing a sense of casual-luxe.
